Asante Samuel, LeSean McCoy claim they knew Nnamdi Asomugha was a flop from day one.
Samuel and McCoy didn't sugarcoat Asomugha's struggles after signing a large contract in 2011.
When Nnamdi Asomugha hit free agency in 2011, he was extensively chased and finally signed with the Philadelphia Eagles. The former Raiders great agreed to a five-year, $60 million deal with a $25 million guarantee, but his teammates were displeased from the start.
Former Eagles cornerback Asante Samuel called Asomugha "overrated" in a recent guest appearance on the I Am Athlete Podcast. Samuel was asked to discuss the first thing that comes to mind when he hears Asomugha's name, and he responded candidly.
"The first thing that comes to me is how the NFL can influence, control the narrative to make things seem to be different," Samuel said. "You can't make up any excuses for the quality of play when it varies so drastically from one side to the next.
You can't be this excellent over here and then come here and suddenly you're not that terrific because of this and that."

Samuel was alluding to the disparity in Asomugha's numbers between his tenure with the Oakland Raiders and the Philadelphia Eagles.
Asomugha only allowed one touchdown in 45 games with the Raiders from 2008 to 2010, but he allowed nine in 32 games with the Eagles.
The 2011 Eagles' standout running back, LeSean McCoy, related a tale about Asomugha's first one-on-one during practice.
Everyone was delighted at first and believed having Asomugha on the roster was a major thing, but after seeing him go against tight end Brent Celek, they changed their thoughts.
Celek defeated him with a post-corner route, shattering the illusion established by the hoopla.
Asomugha was released by the Eagles after two seasons and had a short stay with the San Francisco 49ers before being discarded in November 2013.
Asomugha signed a one-day deal with the Raiders in December 2013 to formally retire with the team.
